NOISE

NOISE An adage says “An empty barrel makes a loudest noise. Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines noise as a sound especially when it is loud, unpleasant or disturbing. Acousticians contend that “noise “ as an unwanted sound, is one form of environmental contamination. The Encyclopedia Britannica has noise as a form of environmental degradation which has implications for health that may be as serious as air or water pollution. Some of the many sources of noise in this country are horns from taxi-drivers, trucks, heavy-duty lorries, electric generating plants, roadside record sellers, welders, and individuals enjoying stereophonic sound system. While the noise produced by a source may benefit or please the producer, it annoys, distracts and disturbs the victims. Exposure to very high noise pressure level can cause physiological effects leading to deafness. Other physiological effects are the speeding up of pulse and respiratory rates. Medical evidence also adduces that noise can cause heart attacks in individuals suffering from cardiac injury, and exposure to loud noise over a long time can lead to hypertension and ulcers. Nerves are on edge and muscles become tense as producers of noise and their victims sometimes clash. Therefore, it seems clear that at a time when we are becoming aware of the devastating effects on human health of other forms of environmental pollution, there is a crying need to control noise-making by all and sundry. Noise-making among students: Anywhere that is full of noise making is no other than a gathering of fools and a caliber of nonentity. When noise making is becoming rampart, excessive and unbearable, it makes both the produces and the victims become tired, bored and unconcentrated. The noise-maker lacks focus and insight because he/she has no valuable, sensible and reasonable assignment to embark on. Similarly, making a noise is a disease that needs to be cured by the maker. This could also affects the brain because it will cause distraction which brings attraction. It is high time noise making is confronted, battled and completely eradicated in order to have a peaceful society and environment. I want to conclude by saying; you are an empty being whose entity carries no value, untamed specie, savage and unreasonable because you are humanly declined and animalistic inclined. MATHEMATICS” THE CRADLE OF ALL CREATIONS

MATHEMATICS” THE CRADLE OF ALL CREATIONS Mathematics is a methodical application of matter, it is so said because the subject makes a man methodical or systematic. Mathematics makes our life orderly and prevents chaos. Certain qualities that are nurtured by mathematics are power of reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking, critical thinking, problem – solving ability and even effective communication skills. Mathematics is the cradle of all creation, without which the world cannot move an inch. Be it a cook or a farmer, a carpenter or a mechanics, a shopkeeper or a doctor, an engineer, or a scientist, a musician or a magician, everyone needs mathematics in their day-to-day life. Every insects use mathematics in their everyday life for existence. Snail make their shells, spiders design their webs and bees build hexagonal combs. There are countless examples of mathematics patterns in nature’s fabric. Anyone can be a mathematician if one is given proper guidance and training in the formative period of one’s life. Despite the numerous usefulness of mathematics, as a subject, students still fall below their expected level due to the following factors:- Lack of Preparation: Many students are not challenged and have a lazy mindset, which leads to their inability to see the need for preparation Too many distractions/lack of focus: With social media, e-readers, ipads, smartphones etc Students have many toys to distract them in their lives. Poor Time management: Managing time effectively is critical to a student’s ability to balance multiple responsibilities that come with being in school. (homework, projects, a job, social time, family obligations. e.t.c) Lack of perseverance: Students must learn that everything in life is a process. Life is not a spirit, but a marathon at that, there are lessons to be learnt, obstacles to overcome and challenges to be conquered. Going through life, thinking success, achievement and winning come easy is a false sense of hope that leads nowhere. Excessive Dependency of Thought: This is what I call the “Lazy mentality” which is a byproduct of the “entitlement” generation, students inability to think for themselves, take responsibility for their actions/learning, or become solution oriented will cripple their future. Low self-Esteem/Too much self – confidence: Having good self-esteem correlates with success late in life-mainly because good grades and confidence can allow a teen to start out with scholarships and other opportunities. Fear of Failing: Failure is a fact of life and the foundation for all success. Nobody wakes up saying they want to fail, nor do they enjoy failure. The key is resilience and learning from the future, changing in the process and growing toward success. Procrastination: Procrastination is the antithesis of time management and does not exist in the success formula. Doing things at the last minute is not only ineffective and non-productive, but it leads to stress, substandard/marginal work, and poor performance. Inability to think critically, analytically and creatively. OWATIMEHIN. O (VP1)

DETERMINATION BREEDS SUCCESS

DETERMINATION BREEDS SUCCESS According to Former America President Barack Obama, He said that "The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. I AM A STAR

I AM A STAR A star is someone who is dazzling skilled in any field. A star is a famous person or a celebrity. A star is also a person who is highly celebrated in a field or profession. Stars don’t listen to mockery. Stars don’t follow multitude especially the bad or wrong ones. SOME EXAMPLES OF STARS Benjamin Franklyn who discovered electricity tried many times without giving up until he achieved his aim. If he had given up, he wouldn’t have become a star. The first sewing machine invented by Barthelemy Thimonnier was criticized and destroyed . He re-invented it better than before. He never gave up on himself and his dreams. What of the football star Kanu Nwankwo? He was criticized for his skinny nature and was told to leave the field and was called all sorts of names BUT he never gave up but was DETERMINED and scored so many goals for his country and foreign clubs. He is a football star and a legend that will never be forgotten. This applies to us students, the spectators that criticized Kanu represents your friends, neighbours, classmates etc. Don’t listen to them, don’t allow them to discourage or ruin your morale. You can do all things if only you believe. Relating to academics; Hope and believe that you are a star and nothing will become impossible for you with GOD by your side. Discover yourself and your nature and know the best atmosphere and time that is good enough for you to read , be it day time or night time. Learn to think and act like a star then you will become one. Don’t let others dream discourage you. Be determined because determination breeds success.
